Part 4: SELF SELLER for Paris - „extremely cheap renewables“!
NGO-Meeting with the german delegation that is negotiating the climate change convention:
„Instead of talking about COSTS for carbon reduction measures, why not instead talk positively about targets for the worldwide installation of „extremely cheap renewables“? 20% by 2020, 80% by 2050 – and we all can profit twice – economically and with zero emissions!“
„We know this for Germany, but give us examples for other countries”
So we researched the topic, having 25 years of renewable energy financing experience ourselves, and here are the results. Costs refer to one kWh energy:
New coal fired: 7-10 cents*
Large scale wind: 2,5-4,5 cents**
Rooftop solar: 1,7 cents***
In summary: EXTREMELY cheap renewables!
*According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, October 2015
**USA, Brasil, South Africa
***in Spain with 25% autoconsumption
(exact references in the article below)
Looking at the world wind atlas and the world solar atlas reveals that „extremely cheap renewables“ are in fact available to almost all countries in the world, especially in the US, China, India and Europe – the main polluters.
