Climate Change: Self Seller for Paris

Change of Paradigms: Instead of talking about the costs of reducing carbon emissions, time has come for now "extremely cheap" RENEWABLE ENERGIES to provide a Zero Emission Profit-Strategy for the climate change treaty in Paris. Politicians will love this "climate-profit" strategy, as it is easily transported to voters worldwide.

The world can profit twice, economically and with zero emissions.

Renewable Energies are already more cost competitive in Germany today than any newly-constructed conventional power plant (1). Remarkably, this is true despite the fact (as shown on wind and solar resource maps) looking at that Germany has far less sun and wind than most countries on the planet (2):
Today, renewables are more cost effective than newly constructed conventional power plants worldwide - with marginal costs close to zero.
This is a RENEWABLES (economic) point of no return for the world.

The consequences for the world economy are dramatic, and Chancellor Merkel in Germany knows what she is doing: Know your numbers and go for Energiewende, the energy transition to 100% renewable energies by 2050. Every other country in the world will pay a higher price later for not doing taking action now, given today’s much improved economics for renewables.

And this is the change of paradigms for the climate change conference in Paris: It is not about the allocation of costs for carbon reduction measures anymore, it is now about profits, worldwide profits through the installation of renewable energies! Because now the economics work.

Zero Emission Profit-Strategy for Paris We request the world climate change treaty in Paris to define goals for the massive installation of renewable energies:

20% renewables worldwide by 2020 80% renewables worldwide by 2050 Economically better now, all countries will profit - a zero emission profit strategy for the world.

Self seller for Paris.

  1. World Wind Map and World Solar Map:

World Wind Map: Basically all countries in the world have a better wind resource than Germany`s inland (green in map). This is especially true for the US, Canada, China, India and Europe.

Rooftop solar energy in Madrid/Spain works with a payback time of 10 years at the whole sales price level of only 5 cents (assuming 25% autoconsumption, fair enough) – 500,000 new jobs WITHOUT ANY SUBSIDIES WHATSOEVER (Article „Let the sun shine in“ on www.zepface.it).

The World Solar Map shows, that 95% of the world`s population has as much sun as Madrid has, green in map. (arrow). And most countries have even more sun than Spain.

And after amortization, solar system will run with almost zero marginal costs. Solar energy today is more cost competitive worldwide, than any new conventional fuel source.

In other words, politicians that do not recognize this vast solar potential of their country will risk a poker game next election day: Do voters know what they are missing out on?

Proposal for a fair distribution of carbon certificates, allocated between industrialized and developing countries. Initially, the latter countries receive higher allocations to finance development of their own decentralized renewables energy systems. Schematic drawing only. Importantly, renewable energy targets would be defined with 20% by 2020 and 80% renewables by 2050, worldwide.
